Increase Performance and Decrease Costs when Delivering Autodesk Applications

Citrix Systems, Inc. and Autodesk have partnered to provide customers with greater efficiency and flexibility in their use of Autodesk’s geospatial applications. By delivering AutoCAD® Map 3D 2009, the leading engineering platform for creating and managing spatial data, to users via Citrix XenApp™, organizations can significantly improve application performance and reduce workstation costs, while providing the best user experience possible.

Citrix XenApp offers application virtualization and application streaming delivery methods to enable the best experience with AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 software for any user, on any device, over any network connection. This Citrix solution centralizes application processing and administration in the datacenter, reducing IT management costs and increasing data security and regulatory compliance. In addition, Citrix XenApp delivers even the most powerful Windows® applications, such as AutoCAD Map 3D 2009, to any type of device or operating platform—-without sacrificing performance or functionality.

Description

Optimal performance over the WAN
Using a powerful, compute-intensive, data-rich application such as AutoCAD Map 3D demands a great deal of low-latency bandwidth. Because Citrix XenApp centralizes application processing on the server close to the data source, only minimal, predictable amounts of data traverse the network (typically less than 28 Kbps per client session). With Citrix XenApp, AutoCAD Map 3D has a smaller network footprint, which improves performance and helps avoid the costs of additional bandwidth capacity.

Stronger data security and improved compliance
For many utilities and telecommunications companies, and government agencies that must adhere to homeland security regulations, data privacy and regulatory compliance are critical. Citrix builds end-to-end security into Citrix XenApp. First, application data remains secure behind the datacenter firewall, instead of being exposed on the local desktop. Also, the small amount of data that travels between client and server is encrypted, and IT staff can centrally establish policies that control the level of information access for each user.

Lower workstation and laptop costs
To support the AutoCAD Map 3D software, users must have high-end, powerful laptops or PCs running the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. Citrix XenApp delivers the application to any type of client device, enabling workers to use less-powerful, less-expensive business laptops or PCs.

Consolidated servers and administration
Citrix XenApp facilitates IT centralization efforts that can reduce costs through server consolidation and single-point management. Citrix XenApp improves IT efficiency by reducing or eliminating the need to support and maintain each user’s desktop. Session shadowing over the network enables remote troubleshooting. Upgrades and patches are centrally installed and rolled out to users quickly and painlessly. With XenApp, organizations no longer need to staff each branch with administrators trained in AutoCAD Map 3D.
