Citrix CTO Simon Crosby described how free hypervisors can help smaller organizations get familiar with virtualization technology.

11/7/2008 » Processor, Kurt Marko » In an in-depth piece on virtualization for small and mid-size organizations, Processor pointed out that free hypervisors are only a start: “Free products enable server hardware to host multiple guest operating systems with little to no performance penalty; however, they merely provide an inkling of the sorts of server management flexibility virtualization holds in store.” Simon Crosby, Citrix chief technology officer, concurred, comparing the hypervisor to the engine of a car. Commercial server virtualization solutions are needed to provide the management tools that can deliver the full value of server virtualization.
